Hi, I am Stuart

With over 30 years in martial arts and more than two decades of dedicated meditation practice, Stuart Newnam offers a uniquely holistic approach to Tai Chi. Fluent in Mandarin and deeply immersed in Asian traditions, Stuart spent nearly 20 years living and training across China, Tibet, Thailand, and Myanmar. His teachings blend classical disciplines like Tai Ji Quan and Ba Gua Zhang with modern insights from psychology, meditation, mixed martial arts, and strength training.

A former UFC and professional MMA coach in San Diego, Stuart is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He holds a degree in Cultural Anthropology and Asian Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill and completed advanced studies in Clinical Psychology at UC Berkeley.

Stuart began his Tai Chi journey in 1999 under Dr. Wang Jun at UNC and moved to China in 2003 to train intensively with Master Yang Chen Long until 2021. Now based in North Carolina, he brings this deep expertise to students seeking more than just fitness—offering a path to balance, longevity, inner peace, and embodied awareness.
